The Crow
by carolynholm
Mom!
WHAT WAS THAT??????!!!!!!!
Winston
Dear Winston,
Maybe you could give me some context.
Love, Carolyn
Mom
Context?????????????????
Winston
Dear Winston,
What did it look like?
Love, Carolyn
Mom,
It was HUGE!!!
Winston
Dear Winston,
That’s a start. Where did you see it?
Love, Carolyn
Mom,
It was sitting right on our patio wall!!!!!
Winston
Dear Winston,
Was it another cat?
Love, Carolyn
Mom
No!!! It was a bird!!! It was HUGE!!!!! And gleaming black!!! And SCARY!!!!!!!
Winston
Dear Winston,
That’s our friend the crow.
Love, Carolyn
Mom,
He’s a friend?
Winston
Dear Winston,
We leave treats for him. He’s learning that when I whistle, there will be a treat there for him.
Love, Carolyn
Mom,
But he flew away when you opened the door.
Winston
Dear Winston,
But he came right back for the treat. It’s good he’s wary. That’s a sign of intelligence. I wouldn’t recommend any wild animal trust a human without a whole lot of testing first.
Love, Carolyn
Mom!!!
I’m a wild animal and I trust you!!! Mostly!!!!!
Winston
Dear Winston,
Thank you sweetie. So, is this why you have been sitting at the patio window for the last hour? Are you waiting for the crow to show up again?
Love, Carolyn
Mom,
Yes!!!!!
Winston
Dear Winston,
That’s so normal of you! And who knows who else you’ll see out there.
Love, Carolyn
Mom!
Who else?????? How many are there???
Winston
Dear Winston,
There are the squirrels. And the little birds at the feeder. And I think Louie has been coming around again. That cat thinks he owns the neighborhood.
Love, Carolyn
Mom,
Did you see Louie?????? That’s so exciting!!!!!
Winston
Dear Winston,
I haven’t seen him, but I suspect we got a visit from him. I rescued the catnip plant that he had smashed up. I put it into a pot and brought it to the patio for safe keeping, and this morning I found it completely flattened. Again.
Love, Carolyn
Mom!
Louie smushed it!!!!!!!
Winston
Dear Winston,
He just can’t seem to resist sitting in it.
Love, Carolyn
