Dear Mommy,
The New Dog is taking over the whole house. It’s not fair. Puffin and I are really, really, really upset about this.

Dear Mia,
She’s not taking over the whole house. She is mostly downstairs in the kitchen, and you have the entire upstairs.

Dear Mommy,
She took my toys out of my toy basket.
Love, Mia
Dear Mia,
That was unfortunate. I have moved that basket out of her reach. And I put out a basket of her very own, full of dog toys.

Dear Mommy,
Also, the New Dog is very bouncy. Puffin and I find that alarming. She wants to chase us.
Love, Mia
Dear Mia,
I won’t let her. And you can stop calling her the New Dog. She has a name: Poppy. I realize you are distressed by her adoption, but give it time, you’ll find she is really very sweet.
Love, Carolyn
Dear Mommy,
Puffin says the New Dog is your bitch.
Love, Mia
Dear Mia,
Oh dear. I’m not sure Puffin even knows what that means. And I’m not sure I want to dignify that with a response. Sometimes I wonder why I put up with you cats.
Carolyn
Dear Mommy,
Does this creature write to you?
Love, Mia
Dear Mia,
No, I think it’s too soon to expect that. Right now Poppy is getting used to a new situation. Imagine how she must feel!
Love, Carolyn
Dear Mommy,
Imagining how a dog feels is not something I care to do.
Love, Mia
