Turf Wars

Dear Alpha Mommy,

What’s that all about when the cats fight on your bed at night?

XOXO Poppy

Dear Poppy,

They are fighting over the Good Spot.

Love, Carolyn

Dear Alpha Mommy,

There’s a Good Spot????!!!!

XOXO Poppy

Dear Poppy,

They think so. There are a lot of Good Spots. Look at the two of them now. They both claim the leopard print blankie. Now there will be serious maneuvering. It’s really annoying. I wish they would get along. Other people have cats who snuggle together. The internet is full of snuggling animals. What do I have? Turf Wars.

Love, Carolyn

Dear Alpha Mommy,

The kitchen is my turf.

XOXO Poppy

Dear Poppy,

It is. I’ve noticed you get very brave and chase the cats out of there.

Love, Carolyn

Dear Alpha Mommy,

And Puffin owns the upstairs.

XOXO Poppy

Dear Poppy,

Well, he thinks he does. But I notice he’s more open lately to letting you walk around unchallenged.

Love, Carolyn

Dear Alpha Mommy,

That’s only if I lower my ears to show him I know he’s the boss of there.

XOXO Poppy

Dear Poppy,

Then there’s the back yard. You are pretty vigilant about defending that turf.

Love, Carolyn

Dear Alpha Mommy,

The squirrels and the next-door cat don’t belong in our back yard!

XOXO Poppy

Dear Poppy,

What about the crows?

Love, Carolyn

Dear Alpha Mommy,

When they come to the birdbath I chase them away!

XOXO Poppy

Dear Poppy,

Good dog! I’m glad you do. They leave so much trash. I’m sick of cleaning greasy mayonnaise packets and soggy hamburger buns out of the birdbath water.

Love, Carolyn

Dear Alpha Mommy,

They think it’s their turf. Turf gets very complicated.

XOXO Poppy

Dear Poppy,

It does. It would be nice if you all could forget all this turf stuff.

Love, Carolyn

Dear Alpha Mommy,

We can’t. You are our main turf.

XOXO Poppy
