The List

Dear Alpha Mom,

Is it true that all dogs are supposed to love cars?

Your Best Dog,

Molly

Dearest Molly,

Many do.

Love, Carolyn

Dear Alpha Mom,

What’s that all about? I don’t like cars.  I’d rather not ride in a car.  Cars just make me uncomfortable.

Your Best Dog,

Molly

Dearest Molly,

I can tell.  You never relax in the car.  But a lot of things make you tense. You’re a tense dog.

Love, Carolyn

Dear Alpha Mom,

Now I’m worried. Is that wrong?

Your Best Dog,

Molly

Dearest Molly,

Oh dear, no, no, it’s not wrong. It’s just a bit different. You worry about things and that makes you tense.

Love, Carolyn

Dear Alpha Mom,

Well OF COURSE I worry about things. There are so many things to worry about. Cars. Thunder. Children. Strange dogs. Unauthorized visitors. Fireworks. Bicycles. Strollers. Hair Dryers. Hammers. Raccoons. And of course, Skateboards.

Your Best Dog,

Molly

Dearest Molly,

Oh dear, that’s quite a list.

Love, Carolyn

Dear Alpha Mom,

And toddlers. Ants. Skunks. Crows. Leaf blowers. Burglers. The smoke alarm when you’re sautéing salmon. The smoke alarm when it needs its battery changed. Light timers. And half-empty food bowls.

Your Best Dog,

Molly

Dearest Molly,

Wait, what? Light timers?

Love, Carolyn

Dear Alpha Mom,

OF COURSE light timers. It’s just wrong when the hall lamp turns on all by itself.  It startles me every time.

Your Best Dog,

Molly

Dearest Molly,

Well ok, you can do the worrying for both of us on that one. What about vacuum cleaners? Do you worry about them?

Love, Carolyn

Dear Alpha Mom

Of course not. They are no longer loud.

Your Best Dog,

Molly

Dearest Molly,

I guess going deaf has its advantages.  As for ants, I understand that worry. It must be awful when they get in your food.

Love, Carolyn

Dear Alpha Mom,

Especially when it goes unnoticed.  By you.

Your Best Dog,

Molly

Dearest Molly,

I did notice, Sweetie. Eventually. Now your food bowl is set in a bowl of water to keep them out. That works, as long as we can keep Poppy from drinking from it instead of the regular water dish.

Love, Carolyn

Dear Alpha Mom,

See, another thing to worry about.

Your Best Dog,

Molly
