Molly’s Advice
by carolynholm
Dear Mom,
Dad said that you will start going places again.
XOXO Poppy
Dear Poppy,
Now that we’ve been vaccinated we feel like we can venture out a bit. This afternoon I’m going to the fish market! That’s so exciting!
Love, Carolyn
Dear Mom,
Buying fish is exciting?
XOXO Poppy
Dear Poppy,
Fresh fish from one of the best fish shops in the East Bay.

Dear Mom,
I know, I like fish. But is it safe for you to be going out?
XOXO Poppy
Dear Poppy,
That’s so sweet of you to be worried! I really appreciate that.
Love, Carolyn
Dear Mom,
I’m serious. I’m worried about the two of you going places.
XOXO Poppy
Dear Poppy,
You shouldn’t worry, sweetie. We’re not going to do anything crazy. But the vaccine gives us some welcome freedom.
Love, Carolyn
Dear Mom,
Molly warned me about this.
XOXO Poppy
Dear Poppy,
Molly? How could she have known about this? She died years ago!
Love, Carolyn
Dear Mom,
She explained that when you go out, there’s the chance that predators will get you. You’ve always been able to escape them and make it back home, but one day you won’t. The predators will eat you.
XOXO Poppy
Dear Poppy,
That does sound like Molly. Our little Terrier may be gone but apparently she still has a long reach. So all this time you’ve been thinking the lockdown was to protect us from predators?
Love, Carolyn
Dear Mom,
Of course. And when predators get you, what are we going to do?
XOXO Poppy
Dear Poppy,
Sweetie, the Covid Predator is a serious issue, but don’t worry about us. The vaccine is a strong protector. We’ll be ok. Molly always tended to see things in their worst possible light. For her the glass was always half empty. But the predator issue was never as serious as she thought it was.
Love, Carolyn
Dear Mom,
She also said never let the food bowl go empty. She said you might forget, so I should always remind you. Or you might accidently let us starve.
XOXO Poppy
Dear Poppy,
Molly was thorough. She thought of everything.
Love, Carolyn
