High Anxiety

Dear Alpha Mom,
Poppy says she doing drugs now.
Your Best Dog,
Molly
Dearest Molly,
She wasn’t supposed to tell anyone.
Love, Carolyn
Dear Alpha Mom,
Is this a gateway drug to heroin?
Your Best Dog,
Molly
Dearest Molly,
No, Sweetie, you worry too much.
Love, Carolyn
Dear Alpha Mom,
Is she going to start doing illegal things, like chasing cars?
Your Best Dog,
Molly
Dearest Molly,
No, that’s not going to happen.
Love, Carolyn
Dear Alpha Mom,
Why are you supplying her with drugs? I’m worried you are going to be arrested.
Your Best Dog,
Molly
Dearest Molly,
We’re not doing anything illegal, Sweetie. It’s just a pill. We all take a pill from time to time. You take a pill every night for your heart murmur.
Love, Carolyn
Dear Alpha Mom,
Poppy says hers is a mood-altering drug.
Your Best Dog,
Molly
Dearest Molly,
Ok. We’re trying to see if Prozac will help her with her fears.
Love, Carolyn
Dear Alpha Mom,
There’s a pill for fear?
Your Best Dog,
Molly
Dearest Molly,
It’s not a silver bullet, but it seems to help.
Love, Carolyn
Dear Alpha Mom,
I’m glad you’re not using bullets. Did the nice lady dog trainer say this was okay?
Your Best Dog,
Molly
Dearest Molly,
She did. She suggested it. Because Poppy’s fear of Alpha Dad is so stressful.
Love, Carolyn
Dear Alpha Mom,
I understand that we should be suspicious of strangers, that’s just common sense, but everyone in the family has a Security Clearance. Why is Poppy so terrified of Alpha Dad?
Your Best Dog,
Molly
Dearest Molly
We suspect that when she was young she was badly treated and kicked by a man. She is particularly worried about Alpha Dad’s feet.
Love, Carolyn
Dear Alpha Mom
Alpha Dad would never kick us!
Your Best Dog,
Molly
Dearest Molly,
Of course not. But we can’t seem to get through to her. Does she talk to you about what happened to her when she was young?
Love, Carolyn
Dear Alpha Mom,
She can’t remember. But she’s totally convinced that Alpha Dad is scary. That’s why she sometimes growls and barks at him. And she watches every move he makes, like her eyes are going to drill holes into him. I watch him too, but that’s because he always gives me treats from his plate.
Your Best Dog,
Molly
Dearest Molly,
Yes, he’s a bit of a pushover about feeding from the table.
Love, Carolyn
Dear Alpha Mom,
You say that like it’s a bad thing! It’s one of the things the cats and I love about him! Don’t make him stop! It’s a good thing!
Your Best Dog,
Molly
Dearest Molly,
I don’t know how it is you are not overweight.
Love, Carolyn
