Bird Watching

by carolynholm

Hey Mom,
So many birds!!!!!
Winston

Dear Winston,
The bird feeder is busy today!
Love, Carolyn

Hey Mom,
It’s a party out there! And the little grey bird with the party hat is the boss of the feeder!!!!
Winston

Dear Winston,
That’s the Titmouse. You’re right, he thinks he owns the feeder. And his crest does look like a hat.
Love, Carolyn

Hey Mom,
A Titmouse? A TIT MOUSE??? He’s a bird AND a mouse? That’s perfect prey!!!!! I want to catch him!!!!!!!
Winston

Dear Winston,
I’m sure you do. We’re not going to let that happen. You can just stick to watching the Titmouse from the dining room window.
Love, Carolyn

Hey Mom,
The other birds have to wait for him to finish and leave before they can come to the feeder.
Winston

Dear Winston,
That’s true. I think somewhere there’s a sign-up sheet for the feeder schedule. All the house finches show up together. Then all the chickadees. And so on. There’s apparently a system.
Love, Carolyn

Hey Mom,
Until the blue one shows up. They all clear out then.
Winston

Dear Winston,
That’s the blue jay. And he clears out when the crow stops by.
Love, Carolyn

Hey Mom,
The crow looks kinda scary. That thug is too hella big to be prey.
Winston

Dear Winston,
He is imposing. I think you’d get hurt if you mixed it up with that guy. Probably a good idea to take a pass on catching him.
Love, Carolyn

Hey Mom,
I’ll wait until I’m a little older for that. Maybe next week.
Winston
