Game Change

by carolynholm

Cher Madame,
The game was completely changed last night.
Regards, M. Le Poufin

Dear Puffin,
You could say that.
Love, Carolyn

Cher Madame,
The prey, she was flying around in a different part of the house. Madame altered the game.
Regards, M. Le Poufin

Dear Puffin,
The game has been gradually evolving, sweetie. That’s what is so extraordinary about it! You and I play a game with actual rules that we both arrived at together. A friend asked me what treats I used to train you to do that. She was impressed that you weren’t trained to do this, that we worked it out together.
Love, Carolyn

Cher Madame,
There are special treats for playing a game? Madame has not mentioned this before.
Regards, M. Le Poufin

Dear Puffin,
Oh no, we don’t have any treats like that.
Love, Carolyn

Cher Madame,
Still, the game, it was changed too much last night. There has been a place to catch the prey, and then a place to carry the prey to, the corner of the rug, in order to win the points. Madame went against this tradition.
Regards, M. Le Poufin

Dear Puffin,
But lately you’ve seemed bored with our game, so I thought I’d spice things up with a change of scenery.
Love, Carolyn

Cher Madame,
It was not in the correct place.
Regards, M. Le Poufin

Dear Puffin,
It was just in another part of the house.
Love, Carolyn

Cher Madame,
But not the correct part of the house for the game.
Regards, M. Le Poufin

Dear Puffin,
But you seemed enthusiastic at first!
Love, Carolyn

Cher Madame,
Madame made the prey fly around very seductively.
Regards, M. Le Poufin

Dear Puffin,
Thank you. I try to make it exciting.
Love, Carolyn

Cher Madame,
But it was in the wrong part of the house.
Regards, M. Le Poufin

Dear Puffin,
So, you made a correction.
Love, Carolyn

Cher Madame,
There is a correct way for everything.
Regards, M. Le Poufin

Dear Puffin,
What you did was truly extraordinary.
Love, Carolyn

Cher Madame,
I am an extraordinary cat.
Regards, M. Le Poufin

Dear Puffin,
You are indeed. You caught that prey, took it in your mouth, and then marched us through the dining room, through the kitchen, and into the living room, to bring it back to the spot where we usually play the game.
Love, Carolyn

Cher Madame,
Oui. A correction. To the correct place to play the game.
Regards, M. Le Poufin

Dear Puffin,
I have no words for how astonishing that was.
Love, Carolyn

Cher Madame,
It was, as you say, a game changer. And now, Madame, we will talk about those treats for playing the game.
Regards, M. Le Poufin
