Stretch

by carolynholm

Dear Winston,
I think this stretch is your signature look.
Love, Carolyn

Hey Mom,
I’m stretching because it feels so good!!!!!!!!
Winston

Dear Winston,
I can see that. I’ve just never known a cat who did anything quite like that on a regular basis. You strike that pose a lot. Usually when you are playing and excited.
Love, Carolyn

Hey Mom,
I like being really really really really long.
Winston

Dear Winston,
We should have named you Stretch. Though that’s an inelegant name for what you do. It just doesn’t do it justice. A stretch like this is truly elegant.
Love, Carolyn

Hey Mom,
I’m not trying to be elegant. I’m just rolling around excited for tomorrow. Puffin says tomorrow I will be the center of attention.
Winston

Dear Winston,
Do you know what tomorrow is?
Love, Carolyn

Hey Mom,
It’s Saturday!!!!!
Winston

Dear Winston,
Well, yes, it’s that. But it’s also your birthday!
Love, Carolyn

Hey Mom,
Sweet! What does that mean?
Winston

Dear Winston,
It means that you are one year old. Something to celebrate!
Love, Carolyn

Hey Mom,
Were you there when I was born?
Winston

Dear Winston,
No, you and your littermate were rescued as teeny tiny nursing babies, and raised by a foster mom.
Love, Carolyn

Hey Mom,
Wait, so what happened to my sister?
Winston

Dear Winston,
I’m sorry to tell you this, sweetie. She had a congenital heart problem and sadly she died. But you were okay, and you grew up strong and healthy (and very stretchy!) thanks to the wonderful foster mom who saved your life. She’s the one who came up with a birthdate based on the vet’s estimation of your age. The birthdate she gave you is April 24.
Love, Carolyn

Hey Mom,
Why do we wait for a whole year to celebrate?
Winston

Dear Winston,
You have a point there. We should be celebrating every day. But let’s celebrate the year. It’s a nice tradition.
Love, Carolyn

Hey Mom,
Gotcha! I’m ready!
Winston
